The “sending” & “learning” detectors will both blink rapidly to indicate they are paired. After this the LED on the master detector will turn bright red and stay on continuously. The LED on the learning detector will turn red, but will be slightly dimmed. You can pair multiple smoke detectors in this same manner consecutively.
