A mesh smoke detector is a detector that sounds and triggers an alarm as a group with the already connected CO of Smoke detector detecting smoke, which can indicate the start of a fire. Before you can use this smoke detector properly you have to add it to the Link. The following type of mesh smoke detector can be added to the link;

If you have bought a Smoke detector go to this page

Before you add the smoke detector to the link take note of the following:

  • Keep it close to the link when pairing

Ensure that the link is within the field of view during the pairing process.

The following steps explain how to add the smoke detector to the HomeWizard Link App:

  1. Open the 'HomeWizard link' app
  2. Go to the  'My Home' tab at the bottom right of the screen (automatically when opening app)
  3. In the app, go to the 'Home Settings' by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner
  4. Select 'Add devices'
  5. You are in the 'Add new devices' screen.
    • Select smoke detectors’.
    • Select 'Mesh smoke detectors' to add the smoke detector
    • If everything is well prepared, press 'next' to start the pairing process
      • Put the battery back in the smoke detector, ensuring the polarity is correct
        • Follow the further instructions on the app.
  6. Congratulations, you have added a smoke detector to the HomeWizard link.

Mesh netwerk

After connecting the Mesh smoke detector. This smoke detector becomes a group of other smoke detectors and CO detectors. The big advantage of linking one or more Mesh detectors is that when a cality happens. The fact that the affected smoke detector makes sound, that all coupled mesh devices will also make sound. The following Mesh devices then form part of this group;

  • Mesh Smoke detector
    • Smartwares Mesh Smokedetector SH8-90103
  • Mesh CO detector
    • Smartwares CO detector

Reset a Mesh Smoke detector

Follow this procedure if you wish to reset ( unpair) a mesh smoke detector. Or paring on the HomeWizard link not works

1. Press and hold 30 secondes

  • Press and hold the 'test button' for more than 30 seconds
  • Now release the button.

The LED on the device will flash. The mesh smoke detector will make a beeping noise to indicate it has been reset.

Once added, it is possible to see the smoke detector. You will be notified depending on the status of the link.

  1. Open the 'HomeWizard app'
  2. At the bottom of the screen, click on Control’.
  3. You are in the 'control' screen. Find the mesh smoke detector in the added room.
    • Press on the 'tile’ of the smoke detector to view the status.
    • Hold down the ‘tile’’ of the smoke detector for a long time to ‘EDIT’.
      • Your are in the ‘Device settings’ of the smoke detector you can now view and edit;
        • See the if the sensor has detected smoke
          • Press History” to view the history of the smoke detector
          • Press Device setting’ to change the name, toggle favourite position or manage automation

Placing and installation of the smoke detector

For placing on the ceiling; When placed on the ceiling, fix the sensor in the middle of the room, at least 50 cm from the wall. For placing on the wall;  Make sure the distance between the detector and the ceiling is between 30 cm and 50 cm.

1. Mounting the Smoke detector

Turn the smoke detector (left) from the mounting base.

2. Mark the position

Hold the mounting base at the desired spot on the ceiling/wall and mark the position of the screw holes with a pen.

3. Mounting the bracket

Use the supplied plugs and screws to attach the mounting bracket on the marked spot.

4. Position the smoke detector into the mounting base

Turn the smoke detector (clockwise) into the mounting base until it clicks. Attention: If the battery is not correctly in place the smoke detector will not engage. The smoke detector is now ready for use!

Test the smoke alarm

After installation and at least once per quarter, test all of your alarms to ensure they are operating correctly and are within range of each other. The link will keep you informed when this has to happen.

It is recommended to check visually every week if the LED flashes correctly (every 48 seconds).

Press the test button on any alarm for at least 1 seconds. This will send out a test signal from the alarm; all other connected alarms should receive the signal within a short time.

The test signal will send a reduced RF signal in order to make sure it will work in normal conditions. You will see in the HomeWizard link app if the test was successful.

Battery life

The smoke detector has a battery life of ± 3 years. When the battery is nearing its end of life, a short beep will sound out every 50 seconds for 30 days. The alarm effected by the low battery will only beep, no other connected alarms will sound. It is safe to change batteries in the alarms with outgoing through the learn process again. They will not forget the connection during the battery change process.
